Custom tailored solution built to drive efficiency

The project involved designing and delivering multiple oven systems for processing various parts, including wheels and large product molds.

These systems are integral to the customer’s operations, showcasing the synergy between the customer’s solutions and Precision Quincy’s expertise in industrial oven technology.

Project Scope

The project involved designing, engineering and fabricating four distinct styles of oven systems:

Key Specifications

  • Dual Conveyor Ovens: For processing wheels only, including core preheat ovens (PU and rubber) and an adhesive flash-off oven.
  • Single Conveyor Ovens: For processing large product molds, including PU cure and reheat ovens, and rubber cure ovens.
  • Infrared (I.R.) Drying Oven: Using electric radiant heating panels for drying processes.
  • PU Post-Cure Oven: A large post-cure system using gas heat and designed with a vertical serpentine conveyor system to optimize space.

Each oven system was specifically engineered to meet the stringent requirements of the customer’s processes.  The ovens utilize forced convection and radiant heating, with specialized conveyors to handle heavy molds and large product batches.

Design Features

Four Conveyorized Oven Systems for Auto Industry

Precision Quincy tailored each oven system to the unique needs of the customer, incorporating high-end components and custom features:

  • Core Preheat and Adhesive Flash-Off Ovens: Featured dual conveyors with pneumatically actuated vertical doors, providing seamless integration with the customer’s automation systems.
  • Heavy-Duty Conveyors: These systems used roller chains and product carriers to manage extremely heavy molds, a critical requirement for the customer.
  • Infrared (I.R.) Oven: Fabricated entirely from stainless steel with a stainless-steel conveyor, ideal for handling large parts in a drying environment.
  • PU Post-Cure Oven: Designed for a 24-hour residence time with a vertical serpentine conveyor system, optimizing floor space while handling large batches of wheels.

Key Innovations

  1. Custom Conveyor Systems: Precision Quincy developed conveyors using carbon steel and stainless-steel materials to accommodate the heavy-duty molds and parts used in the customer’s manufacturing.
  2. High-Efficiency Layout: The vertical/serpentine design of the post-cure oven maximized space efficiency while maintaining high throughput.
  3. Automated Doors and Temperature Control: Pneumatically actuated vertical doors and precise temperature control systems, utilizing AB CompactLogix PLCs, ensured optimal process control and minimized energy wastage.

Quality Assurance & Testing

Precision Quincy followed a rigorous testing protocol, including:

  • Pre-assembly, pre-wiring, and pre-testing of ovens at operating temperatures.
  • A multi-point oven uniformity test to ensure consistent thermal processing across the chambers.
  • Compliance with NFPA 86 standards, ensuring safety and operational efficiency.

The customer was encouraged to participate in the quality testing process, offering them insight into the installation and maintenance requirements of the equipment.

Delivery and Installation

Precision Quincy provided comprehensive support for the delivery and installation of the ovens, including:

  • Pre-wired, pre-tested ovens delivered to the customer’s site in assembled form.
  • Recommendations for utility connections, exhaust systems, and fire protection installation, which the customer would manage.

Conclusion

This project highlights the collaborative efforts between Precision Quincy and the customer in designing advanced industrial ovens for high-throughput manufacturing.

By tailoring solutions to the customer’s specific needs, Precision Quincy was able to provide robust, high-quality ovens that meet the demands of modern industrial processing while optimizing space, energy use, and operational efficiency.
